THE ABUSED MULTICENTER

 

Today I want to make a report, as you can see from the title, I want to “report” an event I was a witness to and which had never happened before.

LET’S START FROM THE BEGINNING.

If you have been following me for some time you know that, ever since the MULTICENTER was developed, I spend less time knocking on company doors looking for customers to persuade.

Fortunately, thanks to the product and “word-of-mouth advertising”, now I am frequently called to analyse the problems inherent the production of small and medium lots.

Obviously, being called instead of knocking on doors has a considerable advantage, because when you go knocking on doors, you don’t know whether the company is ready to make an investment or is even interested in our product, and this is very frustrating and not in the least gratifying.

On the contrary, when I receive a call, the great satisfaction of being able to illustrate flexible solutions like the MULTICENTER to people who are already interested and willing to listen to you turns my job into a way of self-fulfilment.

THIS TIME, HOWEVER, THEY CALLED ME AND ABUSED THE MULTICENTER!

WHY THE MULTICENTER DOES NOT WORK!

 

I decided to write this article to try to explain why the MULTICENTER DOES NOT WORK in certain situations. The problem is that I receive many requests for which the MULTICENTER is not suited. Wasting both of our time is not a good thing since, as committed as we may be, we both have a limit:

TIME

 

Time is the same factor for everyone; I would almost define it a democratic factor. In our society, the homeless person, the famous actor, the athlete and the billionaire all have the same amount of time at their disposal.

Seeing that time is money for everyone, when a request is received it needs to be analysed and, in case it is not feasible, an answer needs to be given explaining why it is not possible to satisfy the request.

That being said, I decided to deal with the problem so that, in case you see yourself in one of the cases I am about to describe, you don’t waste your time and neither do I.

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU SAID TO YOURSELF: “DAMN THOSE SMALL LOTS”

 

Welcome to the world of small lots, or perhaps to the hellish world of small lots!  If you are reading this article, there are two options: you are either experiencing this problem, or you have already understood that this is where you will find the solution!

I am meeting more and more customers who tell my that they are very worried about this crazy market, to the point that they are not sleeping well at night or, even worse, that the current situation is scaring them to death, making them unable to decide on anything. Basically, they are paralysed in the face of all the quick changes taking place right before their eyes.

They are angry at their customers, their banks, their suppliers, and even the government. In short, the current situation is totally clouding their vision, and they are no longer able to reason in a way that is detached from their problems, a vortex that to some of them appears to be increasingly complicated, so much so that they cannot react.

They are standing totally still, remembering the good old days. They start to tell you that in the past customers used to order 50,000 – 100,000 pieces as a minimum order, while today not a day goes by that they find themselves discussing orders of 200, 1,000 or 2,000 pieces. Orders of 10,000 pieces are already a thing of dreams….

THE MULTICENTER AND THE SECRET OF THE WEIGHING SCALE

I would like to share with you three ideas which are not usually taken for granted. These are ideas which I collected following discussions with a few loyal customers who shared them with me, having experienced them first hand.

I am providing you with these interesting thoughts to see whether or not they suit you since, in one way or another, they may let you see the problem you are currently experiencing from a different angle, consequently allowing you to find the solution you have been looking for.

As a method for visualising the issue in a simple manner, we use “THE SECRET OF THE WEIGHING SCALE”, in other words an imaginary scale.

This scale will help you evaluate the pros and the cons. Every decision we take originates from pros and cons (remember: even NOT deciding is, after all, a decision).

Ideally, if you think of a traditional scale, which I personally like because, visually speaking, the two plates have to hold the same weight in order to achieve perfect BALANCE.

In fact, the result of the scale is EQUILIBRIUM, something that many times we simply cannot find or, even better, something that we are desperately trying to find in all areas of our lives.

Finding this balance is not easy.

This also applies in the choice of technical solutions.

So, today, I will put the MULTICENTER on one side of the weighing scale. Obviously, everyone will immediately think of the “con”, in this case the cost of the investment.
